About the Role

A Reading Specialist in California is an educator dedicated to enhancing students’ reading abilities, ensuring they achieve literacy proficiency in line with state standards. They work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and administrators to develop and implement effective reading programs tailored to individual student needs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Education, Literacy, or a related field is required. Many positions prefer or require a master’s degree in Reading Education or Literacy. 

  • Possession of a valid California teaching credential is mandatory. Additional certification as a Reading Specialist is often preferred.

  • Valid first-aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificates

  • Letter of Introduction

  • Letter(s) of Recommendation

  • Fingerprinting

  • Tuberculosis (TB) Test

  • California Department of Justice Clarence

  • A valid California Drivers' License
